Mayan Workshop

Year 5 welcomed Emily from Freshwater Theatre to Deansfield and thoroughly enjoyed her Mayan workshop. We found out about the states that existed in Central America for about 4000 years, each with their own ruler. We learnt about the ways the rulers made themselves look impressive and about the hierarchical structure of their society. There was a debate on who was the bravest, the ruler or the warriors, we met some of the important people in society and found out about a ball game in which the losers became human sacrifices! In fact there were lots of reasons people became human sacrifices.
It was a great interactive way to start our study of the Mayans. Thank you, Emily.
