RA - Mrs Aylmer

Spring Term 2018

Our topic this half term is ‘Homes around the world’ and as part of our whole school project we will be learning about our environment. After half term we will be focusing on ‘Ourselves and our bodies’ and ‘Superheroes’. We will carry out investigations to develop skills in predicting, discussing and asking questions about what happens to our bodies during exercise.
We will be reading a wide range of stories, basing our work around the texts, characters and settings.   A variety of rich and engaging texts will be read to bring the topic alive, such as Dear Greenpeace, Lost and Found, Handa’s surprise, Funny Bones and various non-fiction texts. These will form the basis for meaningful and exciting writing.
We will continue to learn maths through group sessions and focus group work. Children will enjoy a range of stimulating and practical activities that will develop their skills in counting, calculation and shape, space and measure. We will be developing their skills in recording and explaining the processes we go through.
We will spend time exploring our environment and use our senses to investigate our world. As part of learning about healthy eating and our bodies we will explore food lifecycles. Festivals like Chinese New Year and Easter are great opportunities to try unfamiliar foods and celebrate special occasions.
All the learning we do is supported by visits, visitors and trips out. We have already enjoyed a visit from the theatre
company. This half term we will be walking to Severndroog Castle (6th February)  to carry out observational drawings. We will visit Woodlands Farm and the Environmental Centre in the second half term to explore environmental changes and habitats. We will also participate in the Immersive dome experience at school on 9th March.
