1B - Miss Brotherwood

Spring Term 2018

We have a busy term ahead of us.
Our whole school project this term is Blue Planet/Planet Earth and will link with our Science topic ‘Animals’. We will look at what animals eat, their habitats and what makes them unique. To support this learning we will be visiting the Horniman Museum to attend a workshop and visit the Aquarium where we will look at a variety of aquatic life. Our visit is on 14th March.
We are also looking forward to the Immersive Dome which is coming to school on 9th March, during Science Week.
In Literacy this term we will start thr term with 'We're going on a bear hunt' (We will be in one of our Forest School sessions!) and will then be focussing on some traditional tales such as ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ and ‘Hansel and Gretel’.We will link the stories to other areas of the curriculum such as History, Geography and Maths. We will be going on a year group walk through Oxleas Woods to Sevendroog Castle, where we will learn to use and create our own maps.
In RE we will be finding out about belonging to a faith and looking at a range of artefacts. We will also learn about Chinese New Year and Shabbat in Judaism.
We will also be focussing on handwriting this term, particularly on where the letters should be placed when using lined paper. In phonics sessions we will be continuing to learn new sounds and using these in both reading and writing.
Our Forest School  day is Thursday in the first half of the Spring Term.
