6W - Mr Wilson

Autumn Term 2017

We are looking forward to a busy year in 6W.
In literacy, we will begin the term with a focus on India and the autobiography of Jamila Gavin- ‘Out of India’. This links to our whole school Take One project. This will include cross-curricular work involving ICT and art. Later in the term our literacy topic will be Chillers and Thrillers.
Children will continue to consolidate the Maths covered in Year 5, with more emphasis this year on understanding and using decimals, fractions and percentages. We will be consolidating the formal written methods for all 4 operations and teaching children to apply these to more complex multi step problems.
The Science Topic this term is Light and this will build on  previous learning about shadows and how light travels.

We are really looking forward to our trip to Wales. Our geographical focus will be contrasting urban and rural settlements as well as finding out more about the physical geography of the area.

Our main History topic over the coming terms is children’s experiences in World War Two. This will involve historical fact as well as a variety of literature set in the period. We hope to hold a World War 2 Day at school in the Spring Term – more news to follow.
In DT we will be designing and making controllable World War 2 vehicles.
